BiographiesMary, Jennie & Claire
Mary Barrett began learning the clarinet at the age of 12, at Churchill School in Somerset. She quickly progressed and was soon playing for her school and her county. Enjoying this so much she decided to continue playing at a professional level. She studied clarinet at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, where she obtained a BA Hons (1st class) and then continued studying at postgraduate level gaining a PGDip from the Royal College of Music, London. Since leaving college Mary has been lucky enough to hold the full time position of co–principal clarinet with the Southbank Sinfonia Orchestra, with whom she recently performed Aaron Copland´s Clarinet concerto. She is now working on a freelance basis with many orchestras in London and the UK. As a chamber musician Mary is a founder member of the Vermilion Ensemble wind quintet, who regularly record for BBC TV, and have also recorded some short film scores, this is alongside recitals and education workshops all over the Britain.
Jennie Dale studied as a postgraduate at the Royal College of Music with internationally renouned oboists Chris Cowie, David Theodore, John Anderson and Jane Marshall. As a student Jennie performed with the RCM Symphony Orchestra playing under Bernard Hiatink, Sinfonietta, Opera Orchestra and participated in coaching and rehearsal sessions with the London Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She is currently principal Cor Anglais with the Telford New Symphony Orchestra and Windband and is a member of "Octanphonie", a windband who were finalists in the Royal Overseas League competition in March 2005. Jennie is Head of Senior Music at Oakfield School, Pyrford in Surrey and enjoys teaching oboe in Kingston, Surrey, Twickenham and Barnet. Jennie recieved her BMus Hons Degree at Birmingham Conservatoire. Whilst in Birmingham jennie enjoyed singing with the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus recording Beethoven´s ninth symphony with Sir Simon Rattle and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. She studied oboe with Jenni Phillips, George Caird and Cor Anglais with Jane Marshall and Anna Cooper. Jennie played in various ensembles including the symphony orchestra, wind ensemble and contemporary ensemble and was selected to play in masterclasses with international oboists including Gordon Hunt, Paul Dombrect and David Walter.
Claire Hynd is a freelance flautist based in the London area. A graduate of Trinity College of Music, she studied under Lynda Coffin (RPO, CBSO) and Alan Baker (ENO) and was awarded a scholarship and bursary. Whilst studying at Trinity, Claire was the overall winner of the Harold Clarke Woodwind competition and also performed a concerto with TCM Contemporary Ensemble. Claire went on to further her education, attending the postgraduate orchestral course at the Royal College of Music on scholarship. During this period at the RCM, Claire studied with Paul Edmond Davis (LSO) and participated in coaching/rehearsals with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment. Claire also played under Bernard Hiatink in Shostakovich 8th symphony. Since graduating the Royal College of Music, Claire has developed an impressive CV that includes appearances with the Norwegian Ballet, the New London Sinfonia, the London Soloists chamber orchestra and Eastern Opera, performing on both piccolo and flute. Claire frequently performs in various chamber music ensembles, including the Fitz–Elliot Duo and Octanphonie. Claire was the Flute apprentice to the London Philharmonic Orchestra. |
